On one late-afternoon walk: red-winged black birds, 2 ring-necked pheasants, a great blue heron, a bald eagle, magpies, a Swainson’s hawk, and of course the standard robins, wrens, and mourning doves.
And on the last quarter mile? Sunset, like a golden sinkhole. They don’t call it Ruby Peak for nothing:
