Found Poems Aren’t Just for Kids

I’m back at it, folks, only this time with my fellow Interlochen Summer Arts Faculty. A little Paul Desmond in the background, a few “discard” books, some pens and glue and voila!found poems in altered books. Only this time I wasn’t in charge. And everyone participating was a professional musician, composer, or author. And oh, that sacred hush that filled the living room once we’d all decided upon a book and began circling our words! What fun!
Under the navy blue Michigan night sky, we sat around a campfire and shared our found poems in altered books. I didn’t think to get a snapshot of everyone’s work before our party ended, but here’s a close-up of mine. I used alternating colors to indicate where I’d put the line breaks/pauses if reprinting or reading this aloud.
